"১৭ নং জগন্নাথপুরে যখন স্কুলে পড়তাম, পড়ালেখা যেমন-তেমন কাজকর্ম করে বেড়াতাম বেশি। স্কুলের সামনে একজন সাইকেল মেকার ছিলেন। তার কাজ করে দিলে ২ টাকার খুরমা কিনে দিতেন। যেহেতু টাকা পয়সার অভাব ছিল, সেই তাগিদে আরও বেশি করে কাজ করা শুরু করলাম। পড়ালেখাটা আর হলো না। আমার এক জ্যাঠাতো ভাই ঠাকুরগাঁও বলাকা সিনেমা হলের সামনে সাইকেল ঠিক করতো। ১৯৯৭-৯৮ সালের দিকে এখানে আসি। প্রায় ৯ বছর সেখানে কাজ করি।

২০০৭ সালের দিকে জিলা স্কুল বড়মাঠের দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিম কোণে চলে আসি। তখন থেকে এখানেই আছি। জিলা স্কুলের সম্ভবত এমন কোন ছাত্র নাই, যার সাইকেল আছে অথচ আমার কাছে ঠিক করাতে আনেনি।

আমাকে স্থানীয় ছাত্র ভাইয়েরা মজা করে ‘বল্টু’ নামে ডাকে। আমার আসল নামটা অনেকে জানেও না। আমার আসল নাম কেশব চন্দ্র রায়। তবে আপনি যদি আমাকে জিজ্ঞেস করেন, আমি বল্টু নামে ডাকার কারণে কষ্ট পাই কি না? সত্যি বলতে আমি কষ্ট পাইনি কখনও। আসলে মজাই পাই।

এই পেশা নিয়েই সুখে আছি। অনেক পুরাতন ছাত্র ভাইয়েরা আছেন মাঝে মাঝে এসে দেখা করেন, খোঁজ খবর নেন। খুব ভালো লাগে তখন। এটুকুই আমার আনন্দ। ছোট ছোট এ আনন্দগুলো নিয়েই জীবন চলে যাক, এটাই চাই।"

"When I was at school in 17 no Jagannathpur union, I used to enjoy working for money more than my studies. There was a bicycle mechanic who worked in front of the school. He used to buy me sweets whenever I helped him with his work. Since there was lack of money, the appetite for earning money started to grow more. Thus I could not continue my study. I had a cousin who worked in front of Balaka cinema hall. During 1997-98, I did come there since my cousin had left the country. I had worked there for almost 9 years.

I moved to the south-west corner of Boro Maath in 2007. Since then, here I am. There is probably no students of Zilla School who owns a bicycle and did not come to me for fixing it.

Local students call me ‘Boltu’. Many people do not know my real name. My real name is Keshab Chandra Roy. But if you ask me, whether I feel offended or not with the name Boltu. Actually I do not get hurt. I enjoy it rather.

I am happy with this job. There are many ex-students of Zilla School who use to meet me occasionally. I feel so good then. That is my moment of joy. I want to live with these small joys forever."
