"ক্রিকেট জনপ্রিয়তা পাবার আগে এই অঞ্চলে ফুটবলই ছিল অন্যতম খেলা। আমি ৭০ দশকের গোড়ার দিক থেকেই ঠাকুরগাঁও বড় মাঠে ফুটবল খেলতাম। জিলা স্কুল ও রিভারভিউ স্কুলের কিছু শিক্ষার্থীর প্রবল আগ্রহের ফলে আমি তাদেরকে মহকুমা ফুটবল টুর্নামেন্টের জন্য প্রশিক্ষণ দিতে রাজি হই। ১৯৭৬ সালে আমার তৈরি করা দল প্রথমবারের মত ঠাকুরগাঁও সরকারি কলেজের বিপক্ষে ফুটবল টুর্নামেন্টে অংশ নেয়। অত্যন্ত মর্মান্তিকভাবে আমরা ৭ গোল খেয়ে হেরে যাই। আমরা হাল ছাড়িনি।

১৯৮৫ সালের দিকে এই খেলোয়াড়দের দলই 'উত্তরণ ক্রীড়া চক্র' হিসেবে গোটা এলাকায় শুনাম অর্জন করে। এই অর্জনের অংশ হতে পারাটাই আমার জন্য বিশেষ কিছু। দিনের বেলা সুগার মিলে চাকুরি, বিকেলের পর থেকে মাঠে জোরেশোরে অনুশীলন, এই ছিল আমার প্রাত্যহিক নিয়ম।

আমি বিশ্বাস করতাম, ঠাকুরগাঁও-এ সবাই খেলা পাগল। ছোট ছোট বাচ্চারা মাঠে বল নিয়ে এলেই আমি তাদের ফুটবল খেলতে শেখাতাম। এখনও তাই করি। আমার ফুটবল ছাত্ররা বিকেএসপিসহ দেশের স্বনামধন্য প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলোতে খেলছে। মাঝে মাঝে তারা যখন ফোন দিয়ে কুশল জিজ্ঞেস করে তখন বুকটা ভরে যায়।

৪০ বছর ধরে ফুটবল খেলা নিয়েই আছি এলাকার সবাইকে সঙ্গে করে। আপনি যদি জিজ্ঞেস করেন আপনি কি পেয়েছেন এই দীর্ঘ সময়ে? আমি উত্তর দিব, অকৃত্রিম আনন্দ আর অসংখ্য মানুষের ভালোবাসা।"

"Before the popularity of Cricket, football was one of the most played games in this region. At the beginning of 70's I used to play football at Thakurgaon Boro Math. Some students of Zilla School and Riverview School showed their strong interest in Subdivisional Soccer Tournament. That's why I agreed to train them as a coach. In 1976, the team took part in the football tournament for the first time against Thakurgaon Government College. We agonizingly lost by 7 goals. We did not give up.

The team that lost very miserably gained fame as ‘Uttaran Krira Chakra’ in 1985. It was very special for me to be a part of that achievement. Job at Sugar Mill during the day and practice in the field during after noon- this was my daily routine.

I believed, everyone of Thakurgaon is crazy about this game. Whenever kids used to come to the field with football, I coached them. I still do. My pupils are now playing football in country's renowned institutions like BKSP. When they exchange greetings with me, I feel honored.

I have been with this game for last 40 years with the inspirations of the locals. If you've got to ask me what have I achieved during this long span of time? My answer to your question will be, ingenuous joy and affection of people."
