"আমি ১৯৯৭ সালের অক্টোবরের ২৬ তারিখে ঠাকুরগাঁও জিলা স্কুলে যোগদান করি। এর আগে পঞ্চগড় বিপি স্কুলে ছিলাম ১৯৯২ সাল থেকে। ঠাকুরগাঁও জিলা স্কুলে যোগদান করবার পর ১৯৯৮ সাল থেকে ২০০২ সাল পর্যন্ত স্কুল হোস্টেলেই বসবাস করেছিলাম। সে সময় ভলিবল টিমটা গড়ে তুলবার চেস্টা করি হোস্টেলের আবাসিক ছাত্রদের নিয়ে। হ্যান্ডবলে আমরা ১৯৯৭ সাল থেকে ২০১৪ পর্যন্ত জেলা চ্যাম্পিয়ন এবং উপ-অঞ্চল রানার-আপ হবার যোগ্যতাটুকু ধরে রাখতে পেরেছিলাম।

পঞ্চগড়ে যখন ছিলাম সেখানে খেলাধুলা নিয়ে রীতিমত উৎসব হত। ঠাকুরগাঁও জিলা স্কুলে যোগদানের পর ভাবলাম ঠাকুরগাঁও-এ এটা ভীষণ দরকার। খেলা নিয়ে জীবনে নানান ঘটনাপ্রবাহের মধ্য দিয়ে শিক্ষকতা জীবনের সে সময়টুকু পার করেছি। একটা ব্যাপার লক্ষ্য করি আমরা যেভাবে বিষয়টা তখন নিতে পেরেছিলাম, সেভাবে নতুনদের মাঝে এখন আগ্রহটা একটু কম দেখা যায়। সেসময় ক্রীড়া জানা মানুষ কম ছিল, তবে আগ্রহ ছিল অনেক। হ্যান্ডবল, ভলিবল ইত্যাদির প্রতি সবার কৌতূহল থেকে আমরা খেলাগুলো ধীরে ধীরে চালু করি। এখন বাস্কেটবল, কাবাডি স্কুলে চালু হয়েছে।

ক্রিকেট নিয়ে আমার কষ্টের একটা গল্প আছে। সেবার ক্রিকেট উপ-অঞ্চলের খেলার সময় ভাবলাম হেরে যাব, আমি রংপুর ডিডি অফিসে চলে গিয়েছিলাম বিল তুলে নিয়ে বাড়ি ফেরার প্রস্তুতিটা সেরে ফেলবার জন্য। পরে এসে শুনি আমরা জিতে গিয়েছি। এরপর রাজশাহী চ্যাম্পিওন হয়ে কুমিল্লা গেলাম জাতীয় পর্যায়ে খেলতে। সেখানকার সিলেকশন বোর্ড আমাদের সবচেয়ে ভালো দুজনকে বাদ দিল। খুব কষ্ট পেয়েছিলাম। তারপরেও জাতীয় পর্যায়ে তৃতীয় হবার গৌরব অর্জন করেছিলাম সেসময়ের ক্রিকেট টিমের আমার সকল ছাত্র সদস্যের আপ্রাণ চেস্টায়। আমার বিশ্বাস ছিল, আমরা চ্যাম্পিওন হব। আমরা যথাযথ সাপোর্টটুকু কুমিল্লায় পাইনি। 

এথলেটিক্সেও আমরা ভাল ছিলাম বরাবরই। বিভিন্ন খেলায় জিতবার সাথে সাথে হেরেছিও বহুবার। সালটা মনে নাই, তবে হ্যান্ডবলে একবার জিততে জিততে হেরে গিয়েছিলাম, খুব কষ্ট পেয়েছিলাম সেবার। জিলা স্কুলের ছেলেদের হাতে ধরে হ্যান্ডবল শেখাতাম। একবার তো হ্যান্ডবলে ৩২ গোল খেয়েছিলাম। সেখান থেকে এসে নিজের হাতে আমরা শিখেছিলাম ভুলটা কোথায়। ছেলেরাও অনেক আন্তরিক ছিল। আমরা দারুণ একটা সময় পার করেছি বলতেই হবে।

আসলে পেশাগত দায়িত্ব ছাড়াও খেলাধুলা বিষয়টাতে নিজের অনেক আগ্রহ ছিল। তাছাড়া সমালোচনাটাকে খুব এড়াতে চাইতাম আর দায়বদ্ধতার দিক থেকেও সবসময় ভাবতাম আমার এগুলো করা উচিৎ।

ব্যক্তিগত জীবনে আমি স্কুল থেকেই খেলতাম। রুহিয়ায় একটি ক্লাবের হয়ে ফুটবল এবং ভলিবল খেলতাম। ক্লাবটার নাম ছিল প্রগতি সংঘ। সেসময় অবশ্য ক্রিকেট ছিল না। 

স্কুলের শিক্ষক হব ভাবিনি কখনও। আমি পড়াশোনার মধ্যেই কুয়েতে গিয়েছিলাম। অনেকেই জানেন না এই বিষয়টা। মেজো ভাই ছিলেন সেখানে। দুবছর ছিলাম প্রায়। ভালো লাগেনি প্রবাসের চাকুরি। তাই ফিরে এসেছিলাম। তবে বড় ভাই এই লাইনে অনেক উৎসাহ দিতেন। তাই ফিজিক্যাল ট্রেনিং সম্পন্ন করেছিলাম রাজশাহী থেকে। আমি প্রথম শিক্ষকতা শুরু করি ঠাকুরগাঁও রিভারভিউ স্কুলে। বিপি স্কুলে ‘৯২ থেকে ’৯৭; আর ঠাকুরগাঁও জিলা স্কুলে সে সময় থেকেই আছি।

আমি বিশ্বাস করি, সব বয়সের মানুষের বিশেষ করে ছাত্রদের প্রতিদিন একটা সময় বের করা উচিৎ খেলার জন্য। সারাদিন সব কিছুর সঙ্গে নির্মল বিনোদনের সাথে শারীরিক সুস্থতার জন্য খেলাধুলা করা উচিৎ।"

"On the 26 of October, 1997, I joined Thakurgaon Zilla School. Earlier since 1992 I was at Panchagarh BP School. After joining Thakurgaon Zila School, from 1998 until 2002 I resided at the school hostel. At that time, I tried to develop the volleyball team with the assistance of resident students. Since 1997 to 2014 we could hold the championship and runners-up-ship in the sub-region and district's Handball tournament.

When I was at Panchagarh, sport was like a festival there. After joining Thakurgaon Zilla School I thought it is necessary here too. I spent an eventful teaching life through the sports. One thing I notice today about the way we were able to take it, there is a little less interest nowadays in the midst of the newcomers. At that time, there were a fewer sports known persons. However, there was interest in them. Observing the interest in Handball, Volleyball etc. we were able to introduce these games here. Now, Basketball, Kabaddi etc. are introduced in schools.

There is a tragic story about cricket in my life as a sports teacher. During the sub-regional cricket match I thought we would lose, so I went to the Rangpur DD office to receive the bill and to take preparation for returning home. After returning to them I heard we had won the match. After being the champion at Rajshahi, we moved to Comilla to play National Level. The selection board excluded two of our best. I got hurt. However, at that time we had earned the honor of becoming the third best cricket team in national level with the hard struggle of all my students in the team. I believed, that we would be the champion. We did not get proper support at Comilla.

In athletics we were always good. Besides winning we lost several matches in different games. I do not remember the year, but we were about to win the Handball tournament and lost, I was hurt again that time. I coached the students of Zilla school with my own hands. Once we lost by 32 goals. From there, we learned what went wrong. Boys were sincere and earnest also. I must say that we had a great time together.

In fact, I have a lot of interest in the sports in addition to my professional duties. Moreover, I wanted to avoid criticism, I did everything out of my accountability as well.

In my personal life, I used to play since I was at school. At Ruhiya, I played for a club and used to play football and volleyball. ‘Pragati Shangha’ is the name of the club. At that time, however cricket was not introduced yet.

I never thought to be a school teacher. I went to Kuwait during my study. Many people do not know about this little secret. My elder brother lived there. I lived there about two years. I did not like the job, so came back. However, my elder brother encouraged me in sports. So, I had done physical training from Rajshahi. I started teaching first at Thakurgaon Riverview School. From 1992 to 1997 I taught at BP School; and since then I am here at Thakurgaon Zila School.

I believe that people of all ages, especially students should take time out to play every day. Throughout the day with everything, for a pure entertainment and physical fitness everyone should play any kind of sports."
