"১৯৮২ সালের আগে পর্যন্ত ঠাকুরগাঁও গণ-গ্রন্থাগারটি জেলা পরিষদ তথ্য কেন্দ্রের অধীনে ছিল। তখন অবশ্য উল্লেখ করবার মত সংখ্যক বইও ছিল না। ’৮২ সালের পরে তথ্য কেন্দ্র থেকে আলাদা হয়ে ৮০০ বই নিয়ে সিএম স্কুলের সামনে সোহরাব মারোয়াড়ীর যায়গায় ঠাকুরগাঁও গণ-গ্রন্থগার যাত্রা শুরু করে।

আমি ১৯৮৭ সালে এখানে যোগদান করি। এখানে আসার পর থেকে চাকুরির পাশাপাশি প্রচুর বই পড়েছি। বই পড়তে আমার আগে থেকেও ভালো লাগতো। এখানে প্রতি বছর বই আসে। আমার পড়া বইগুলোর মধ্যে বেশিরভাগই উপন্যাস। হুমায়ূন স্যারের লেখাগুলো স্বাচ্ছন্দ্য লাগে পড়তে। প্রেমের উপন্যাস হিসেবে ইমদাদুল হক মিলনের বই আর কবিতার জন্য জসীমউদ্দিন এর কবিতার বইগুলোও ভালো লাগে।

আমার ২৯ বছরের চাকুরি জীবনে বহু পাঠক দেখেছি। অনেকে আছেন সারাদিন এখানে পড়ে থাকেন। এমন অনেকে আছেন, যারা দুপুরের খাবার সময়টুকু বাদে বেলা ১০টা থেকে সন্ধ্যা ৬ টা পর্যন্ত বই পড়েন। কিছু পুরাতন পাঠক আছেন যারা নিয়মিত আসেন এখানে। আমি সকালে এসে মাঝে মাঝে দেখি পাঠাগার প্রধান ফটকে দরজা খুলবার জন্য তাঁরা অপেক্ষা করছেন। এ দৃশ্য দেখে বড়ই আনন্দ লাগে! এছাড়া টিফিনের ফাঁকে স্কুলের বাচ্চারা যখন ঐ অল্প সময়ের জন্য বই পড়তে আসে, খুব ভালো লাগে। আমি চেষ্টা করি তাদের বইগুলো খুঁজে পেতে সাহায্য করতে। আসলে আমার কর্তব্যই তো তাই।

এতোদিন এখানে আছি ভালো ছাড়া খারাপটা দেখিনি। অফিসারেরা আসেন, তাদের সাধ্যমত চেস্টা করেন পাঠাগারটির যথাসম্ভব উন্নয়ন করতে। এখন পর্যন্ত এ গ্রন্থাগারে বইয়ের সংখ্যা প্রায় ২০ হাজার।

আমি এ পাঠাগারকে ভীষণ ভালোবাসি। এ পাঠাগার আমার শুধু কর্মসংস্থানের উপায় নয়, বই পড়ার তৃষ্ণার খোরাকও বটে।

আমি ঠাকুরগাঁও-এর সবাইকে অনুরোধ করব এখানে এসে বই পড়ার। আমাদের এখানে বছরে বেশ কয়েকবার সাহিত্য অনুষ্ঠান হয়। সরকার অনেক সুবিধা দিয়েছে বই পড়ার। আরামে পড়ার জন্য সকল ব্যবস্থা আছে এখানে। বাবা-মাদের কাছে আমার অনুরোধ, আপনাদের সন্তানদেরকে গণ-গ্রন্থাগারে পাঠিয়ে তাদের বই পড়ার অভ্যাস গড়ে তুলতে সাহায্য করুন।"

"Until 1982 The Thakurgaon Gono Gronthagar was under the Data Center of Zila Parishad . However, there was not a large number of books to mention. In ’82, with 800 books the Gono Gronthagar was separated from the data center and was placed at Mr. Sohrab Marwari’s place in front of CM School.

I joined here in 1987. I read a lot of books besides doing the job. Although I liked to read books before. The Govt. sends Books every year. I read books, mostly novels. Writings of Humayun Ahmed sir seem comfortable to read. As romantic novelist I prefer Imdadul Haque Milon and for poetry, the books of Jasim Uddin.

I saw many readers during my 29 years of service here. There are many people who come here to read books all day. There are many who, with exception of the time during the lunch, from 10 am read books until 6 pm. Some older readers are coming here on a regular basis. Sometimes I come in the morning to open the door and they are waiting to see me opening the main entrance of the library. The scene takes great joy to see! Besides, school going children come here during the very short tiffin period and it feels very good to see that. I try to help them finding books. In fact, it is my job to perform.

The thing is that I have not seen anything bad; till now everything is alright. Officials come here and try their best to develop the library as much as possible. So far, the number of books in the library is about 20k.

I adore the library. Employment is not the only thing I got from this library, it is also a source of reconciling the thirst of reading.

I ask everyone of Thakurgaon to come here and read these books. Literature Programs are held here several times a year. The government has provided a lot for comfortable reading. There is an atmosphere of comfort here for you to read with pleasant. Parents are requested to send their children to the Gono Gronthagar to help them developing the habit of reading books."
