"ভারত বিভাগের আগে আমার পূর্বপুরুষেরা ভারতের বিহারে থাকতেন এবং ভারত বিভাগের পর তদানীন্তন পূর্ব পাকিস্তানে (বর্তমান বাংলাদেশ) অভিবাসী হয়ে এসেছিলেন। ১৯৭১ সালে বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতা যুদ্ধের পরবর্তী সময়ে এদেশে আটকে পড়ে যান। আমিও তাদের একজন।

আমি ১৯৭২ সালে ঠাকুরগাঁও-এ স্থায়ীভাবে চলে আসি এবং তখন থেকেই জিলা স্কুলের সামনে একটি সাইকেলে নিয়ে আইস্ক্রিম বিক্রি করতাম। আমার আইস্ক্রিম বিক্রির জীবন এদেশের বয়সের প্রায় সমান।

একবার স্কুলের সামনে এই আইস্ক্রিমের গাড়িটি নিয়ে বসে আইস্ক্রিম বিক্রি করছিলাম। একটি পুলিশের গাড়ি এসে থামল। একজন দারোগা বাবু নেমে এলেন। আমাকে বললেন, আপনি এখনও এখানে আইস্ক্রিম বিক্রি করেন? আমিও আপনার এখানে আইস্ক্রিম খেতাম।

এরকম ছোট ছোট অনেক গল্প আছে ঠিক এই যায়গাটায়, স্কুলের এই গেটের সামনে। জীবনটা খারাপ যাচ্ছে না; সংসার নিয়ে সুখেই আছি।"

"My ancestors lived in Bihar, India before the partition of India and after the partition they came in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) as immigrants. Later in 1971, after the liberation war of Bangladesh they settled in this country. I am one of them.

I have settled permanently in Thakurgaon in 1972 and since then in front of Thakurgaon Zila School I used to sell ice-cream on a bicycle. My ice-cream selling life is almost equal to the age of this country.

Once I was selling ice cream in front of the school. A police car came and stopped. An inspector came down. He said to me, do you still sell ice-cream? I used to buy ice-cream from you.

I have a lot of small stories like this in this place, in front of this gate. I feel life is not bad; I'm happy with my family."
